Border crossing is a breeze in the Niagara region
Did you know there are four border crossings in the Niagara Falls area? That’s more border crossings than anywhere else in Ontario. And best of all, unlike Windsor/Detroit and Sarnia/Port Huron, Niagara area crossings don’t have the long lineups many others do. That makes it a cinch for New York State residents to pop over to Canada for some of the best golf (and money exchange) you’ll find anywhere.
With so many visitors coming to us from New York State and other parts of the U.S., we wanted to give you a little more information about how easy crossing the border really is. As U.S. citizens you don’t need a passport, although photo I.D. and proof of citizenship are required. For more information on what you need check out the Government of Canada website by clicking here
There are four bridges throughout the area, making border crossing the fastest and easiest in the province. The Queenston/Lewiston Bridge to the north links the towns of Queenston, Ontario and Lewiston, New York. The Peace Bridge to the south links nearby Fort Erie to Buffalo. The Rainbow Bridge crosses straight through the heart of Niagara Falls, Ontario, into Niagara Falls, New York. And the Whirlpool Bridge, which also connects Niagara Falls, Ontario to Niagara Falls, New York, is available to travelers using the NEXUS border crossing system. For more information on using NEXUS visit http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel/nexus/menu-e.html
And thanks to newly developed security systems, safety isn’t compromised while getting you across quickly.
Waits at the border can vary but in the Niagara area they’re usually less than 20 minutes except at peak times like holidays, Friday afternoons and Sunday afternoons. You can always get the latest border crossing info by checking out

The first site even has a webcam that lets you check out bridges in real time to see exactly what traffic is like!
As you can see, for visitors from New York and the rest of the U.S., crossing the border into Niagara Falls is quick and easy.
